Re: Teach Now Program - is it possible to have the teaching placement in the UK?

Hi,

Thanks, Boomba for responding. We are ok that the internship will be unpaid, but we are not sure if UK mainstream schools will accommodate the Teach Now program. Therefore we got a bit creative with our thinking and are wondering if it would be possible to offer some contribution to school funds as we may have to be a bit flexible. However, we are not sure this may is suitable either.

So, I guess I am looking to see if anyone has completed the TN program in the UK and how they went about securing a clinical practice/teaching placement.

Thanks,

Teach Now Program - is it possible to have the teaching placement in the UK?

Hi everyone,

My husband is considering undertaking the Teach Now Program. We are in the UK and plan to go back to Asia as a 'teaching couple'. I am currently teaching at a UK mainstream secondary school and in my second year since completing my PGCE. My husband is considering this program because he is currently working full time as an administrator to support our family, and as an American citizen he does not qualify for the bursaries offered for PGCE students in the UK.

We have a couple of questions that we would appreciate if anyone has any insight:

1. We realise the need to complete some teaching practice as part of the program and are wondering if anyone has any experience of UK mainstream secondary schools providing a platform for this?

2. I am wondering if it would be appropriate to ask my school to train him (he wants to be an Art and Design teacher) and if necessary perhaps we need to contribute to the school fund?

Many thanks,

International Schools in Delhi that allow me to train for iP

Hi everyone,

My spouse has applied for a job in Delhi and if successful, we will be moving there in June. I am interested in studying for my iPGCE and was wondering if anyone knows of any international schools that will allow me to teach and train at the same time. I realise this may be for low or no pay and that is ok.

Many thanks in advance,

Re: Career changer with dependents - how marketable am I?

Thanks so much Eion, ThamesPirate and PsyGuy - I appreciate the honesty and encouragement.

One more question; with immigration being a topical issue in the UK right now, it may not be easy for us to move there (as my husband is American) so I am now looking at US teaching certification and two years' experience there - will this change increase or limit my chances?

Career changer with dependents - how marketable am I?

I am about to start a School Direct programme teaching Business Studies and Economics the UK and once qualified I will stay to get either one or two years' experience before leaving to start my journey as an IT.

I am a career changer in my mid-forties, married (non-teaching spouse) with two dependents and more than 10 years experience living in Asia. As a family we are open to living in most countries - quite happy to go to Africa, LA, SA or Asia for example.

So, how marketable am I and any suggestions on a recruitment strategy?

Also, should I stay in the UK to get the two years' experience in the hope of one day being recruited by a top tier school or should I just get one years' experience and get overseas ASAP considering my circumstances?

Re: School Direct PGCE

Does anyone know if International Schools count the first year of the School Direct programme as one of the two years teaching experience required?

In other words, would it be possible to get a job at an international school with one year's experience from the School Direct programme and one year as an NQT?
