Too late for a January posting?

I took my first step into the world of international teaching when I took a position with a new school in the ME. Unfortunately for me, this school was not even fully built when I arrived in the country yet management told us every week that there would be students arriving "any day now". No students ever did arrive, and we were let go a few days before the Christmas holidays. I flew back home as my flight was booked, and tried to find a job through various recruiters from my home country. I have found nothing so far, and a lot of recruiters do not believe that the school did not open and that I simply broke my contract (a contract that the Principal/ director of said school refused to sign in the first place). Also this school is no longer in existence so finding a reference from my "current" employer is impossible, and has caused issues with recruitment consultants. I am wondering at this stage to simply staying my home country until next September and resume my job here (I took a leave of absence), I feel I have missed the boat with getting a job this late into January? Thanks!
