Re: the exception
'I teach at a school in Asia that is 90% local students and it's wonderful. '
Hi Cricket,
Can you share the name of the school? This is a question which I am researching at the moment and I would love to know which school you speak so highly of!
Many thanks.

If you teach English, I can highly recommend the CfBT project in Brunei. A great quality of life and enjoyable job. Families particularly enjoy Brunei, as no pollution and very safe - extremely child-friendly lifestyle.

Nannies
Hi
Yes,would help to know your destination.. However,I have had experience of hiring live-in nannies/housekeepers in both Malaysia and Brunei - definitely not worth bringing someone in with you. There are many wonderful ladies who will do a great job and who are already in the country-or there are agencies who will bring one into the country for you. Over the years, I have employed several Philippine ladies, who have done a great job and who spoke excellent English too. The average salary for a live-in housekeeper/nanny in Brunei is Br$400 a month.

Teachers certainly do not go short! The border to Malaysia is a short hop away, so people buy their supplies there. Seems to provide an ample supply for personal needs. There are one or two restaurants where people bring their own to have along with the meal - also the Yacht Club.
Unfortunately, some get put off coming here when the hear it is a 'dry' country, imaging it as very austere - it is not like that at all!

Living and working in Brunei
Hi
Just thought i would put in a good word for Brunei, as CfBT is advertising for teachers at the moment. It is a beautiful and peaceful country - little serious crime and no pollution problems. I have found it a wonderful place to live with my family. Lovely beaches, friendly colleagues, outdoor life...I am one of the many who have stayed here for many years. Check it out!
PS. But don't come if you want nightly pubs and clubs!

Masters
Hi
My advice - definitely do the Masters. It has much more 'kudos' around the world than a diploma has....I have both and the diploma is hardly noticed on my CV, whereas the Masters results in instant positive feedback....
Good luck!

Single parent
Hi
Brunei offers very good conditions for Primary teachers in government schools. Great for single parents! Lots of cheap, good childcare available and short teaching hours...
You can email me if you wish to discuss further -I have direct experience of this!

Malaysian work visa
Hi
Anyone out there who has worked in Malaysia - did you obtain your employment pass from the school before arrival in the country? Or did you arrive as a tourist and then the school processed the visa for you?
Much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi
Can you just clarify which 'JIS" you mean? There is a JIS in Brunei, but the housing is great...
Thanks.
