Re: Good travel accident/health insurance for teacher travel

My school has coverage but it's not straightforward, easy to understand, etc. Actually the coverage is bad enough in the country where we are teaching. I wouldn't trust it. I've known of four people who went travelling, (not necessarily teachers) and had a medical emergency costing between $25,000 and $250,000.

Good travel accident/health insurance for teacher travel?

Can anyone recommend good travel health, accident, theft insurance? And where to buy it online? As international teachers and often big travellers I'm sure we all have good and bad experiences dealing with this kind of insurance coverage. I recently met a teacher travelling with her son who both became very ill on a trip and had to be airlifted to USA from South America for medical help. Total bill was just over $100,000 and she didn't pay a penny. Insurance was not too expensive and the insurance company did not put up any fuss and paid upfront for their expenses. She bought it online but unfortunately 10 years ago and can't remember the insurance company name!

Re: Canadian Tax Question

I'm concerned about that as well. I haven't filed a tax return for over 10 years. I am in the process of having that sorted out with an accountant back in Canada. At least I am thinking of doing that though he charges $350 per hour. I may have a knowledgeable friend of mine help me sort it out. I talked with Revenue Canada about this years ago before I left and the guy said it was a grey area. If you've made a lot of money overseas they are going to try to get a chunk of it. This was years ago before you could register yourself as a non-resident before you moved abroad. Good luck.

Re: School breaking contract terms

Very sorry to hear about this Marina. I hope you have made some friends there to have a support system and also have friends and family as support through internet contact.
There have been some good suggestions made. But don't forget to post for your school and admin in the review part of ISR. I would also post all bad things I see about the school even if it did not affect me so that school admin does not think it is you. Sometimes, maybe, a little heat can get things changed. But unfortunately that's not often at all. Good luck. :)

International shipping suggestions needed!

I need to ship 2.5 cubic meters of my belongings from Indonesia to Mexico. The estimate by AlliedPickfords is huge. Can anyone recommend any methods to use or companies to contact? I've hear about seamail, pallet shipping, freight forward. I can't take as extra plane cargo as I'm already in Mexico. I really need some cheaper ideas. Panic!
