From what I have seen there is a bias against non North Americans in American International Schools.
Asians for instance never make it beyond teacher assistants even if they are qualified in the US.
Unfortunately things have not changed. There are at least two pending court cases . The Assistant Director is poison. The culture of this company in UAE is toxic. On the TES site there is some up to date comments. "C*B* provider who cannot be named." Tes has pulled this thread a number of time but it keeps resurfacing.
Other PPP providers are not attracting the negativity of this company. Apply elsewhere, That would be my advice.
The thing is that if you are single and go to Muscat, you are likely to remain single - u wont meet the special someone there, in fact out side of your work circle you wont meet many people.
Outdoors can be really hot, Muscat is pleasant / bearable for about 5 months of the year. Unless you have a high tolerance for heat and humidity, it is not much fun.

A new school thats offers day care (!) and early childhood up to Kindergarten has opened. More info at tlcoman.com
It planned to make this into a IB school.
Its being promoted as the first project in the field of education by a lady from the royal family. Not sure if that is an advantage! SHeikha Moza, first lady of Qatar is actively involved in education and schools that come under her patronage generally do well.

New intl School in Muscat
A new school run by 'Edugates' is apparently coming up in muscat, in madinat alam area.
It follows the follows the EDUGATES® International Systems.
What organisation is Edugates? Are their schools any good?
We do not want to send our children to the British School and that narrows our choice to ABA and TAISM.
We heard some negative stories about TAISM both from a ex-staff member and the reviews seem to indicate the school is more about preserving external impressions than actually serving the student community.
Apparently the school was created in a fit of pique when a group separated from ABA and branched off.
About ABA I hear their facilties are notwhere near as good as TAISM.
However it appears from those I have spoken to that their teachers are very good.
TAISM apparently has a higher rate of attrition than ABA.
We are quite confused!
I guess people are what make a school great so I would trade in better facilities for better teachers.

TAISM
Talk of being topical, just as we were searching for schools for our children when we move to Oman, we met a very disgruntled ex American School Muscat staffer.
Apparently the teachers are paid very little. Even India pays more she said very indignantly! And the schools take it or leave it attitude apparently has seen many teachers leave and many more will leave.
Part time teachers apparently do not get paid on a regular basis and have to follow up for payments.
Any TAISM teacher on the forum? Is this all true. In an atmosphere like this, I dont know how much quality teaching the teachers will do.
Honest feedback on the school is appreciated. As also that of ABA.

School Review from parents perspective
This site is mostly for teachers wanting to apply to a school.
Any place where I can get reviews of International schools from a parent perspective?
