Re: HOW TO BLOCK POSTERS

I've never read so much drama on a forum page. We are supposed to be educators, lets not relive high school people.

What does your professional code of conduct ask you to do when you have an issue with someone? Please enlighten me, because I follow the ATA professional code of conduct. Yours, I hope, is similar to mine, or at least it calls for this professional stance when trying to resolve an issue: "go to the person who you have issues with and talk to them, if that cannot be resolved, then you seek higher authorities." To prove and put my point into more professional wordsmith, I have copied and pasted four sections from the ATA code of conduct, which I honour to the letter:

"12
The teacher does not undermine the confidence of pupils in other teachers.
13
The teacher criticizes the professional competence or professional reputation of another teacher only in confidence to proper officials and after the other teacher has been informed of the criticism, subject only to section 24 of the Teaching Profession Act.
14
The teacher, when making a report on the professional performance of another teacher, does so in good faith and, prior to submitting the report, provides the teacher with a copy of the report, subject only to section 24 of the Teaching Profession Act.
15
The teacher does not take, because of animosity or for personal advantage, any steps to secure the dismissal of another teacher.
16
The teacher recognizes the duty to protest through proper channels administrative policies and practices which the teacher cannot in conscience accept; and further recognizes that if administration by consent fails, the administrator must adopt a position of authority.
17
The teacher as an administrator provides opportunities for staff members to express their opinions and to bring forth suggestions regarding the administration of the school."

So ultimately people I am asking as a professional, and as a gentlemen to other ladies and gents that we, as a collective, agree to stop "bashing" pysc guy for his opinions.

just my 2 rmb.

Living in Shenzhen China?

Hi Shenzheners (or ex Shenzhen teachers).

I'm just wondering how this city is. I've read it is expensive, but cleaner than say Chongqing.

How much would it cost to rent a 1 bedroom apartment?
Are there still "night markets" peppered throughout the city?
Do you find the city to be very westernized, a little bit, or not very much at all?
How often do you see blue skies? haha

What are some of the best experiences you've had in the city? Some of the worst?

Do you hear lots of Mandarin on the streets?

Any other tidbits you can share?

Thank you so much, and I apologize for the scattered logic of my questioning!

Beneficial to have multiple teaching certificates?

Hi all,

I currently have two teaching certificates from different provinces within Canada. Is it beneficial to have multiple certifications? I'm not trying to be frugal by any means, but one perk I noticed was my British Columbia teaching certification allows me to teach K-12, despite my degree being secondary. I'm not sure if this benefit is really an assistance, or just a waste of 100 oil-less Canadian dollars every year!

Let me know what you think. My other certification (from Alberta) is an Interim Professional Certificate.

Re: Project Based Learning?

thanks for the reply!

How would you go about properly executing a pbl class? I'm asking because I've just "graduated" (or worked for a few years) in a Chinese ran international school. I only did one project this year with my grade 12 students...

So my experience in PBL is quite weak to be frank. Can you elaborate on a situation that would be coined as a "poor" execution of project based learning?

Thanks in advance!

Project Based Learning?

Hello educators and parents alike,

I have been offered a teaching position at a school that focuses on project based learning. I'm not sure what to expect, does anyone have experiences working in a school that's focus was to offer PBL?

Thanks!

Using the medical insurance is hard if you can't speak Chinese though, I've had several respitory problems, and had to visit the doctor in my city many times. It is not very convenient, and the translation is unbearable at times. the overall issue is that my health issue is coming from Maple Leaf, from mouldy classrooms and office spaces. It is mandatory for schools to give a foreigner insurance, but that doesn't mean it needs to be great insurance. Local policies can work too!

Have you ever been asked to change your grade book weighting

Here's the jis of it, some teachers had high overall class averages, some had low. The lower bunch were asked to "adjust" grade book category weights.

Grade inflation? Can I lose my professional licscense as a teacher if, say, an inspector found out that I did this?????

Please respond with what you would do as a professional teacher, in this given example.

Thanks for the fix, and yes, this school is not good by any means, its two years, and get out. I have very little positive things to say about the place, but you can get a job, so you don't have to sit at your computer and twirl your thumbs.

Let me know if you want me to put you into contact with a recruiting agent. I'm sure he'd be happy to make 1000 dollars for getting another recruit.

Soo what are you saying? I don't think you answered my question. Is it common to see mould in international schools in China?

Re: BCIS Meltdown

Is China passing a law where only a certain percentage of "local Chinese students" can enrol into international schools? If so, this law is going to sink my school....

anyone have any information on this? Maybe I'l make a thread about this topic.

Re: Buying property at your current location

I own property in China. Its expensive, yes, but labour is cheap (IE doing renovations is easy on the wallet). I bought my property a couple years ago though.

Is mould considered a "China" thing?

My bosses keep saying the structural integrity of the school is to Chinese standards. Please allow me to elaborate. My classroom and office has mould on the walls, and the school uses paint to cover the mould when investors, and cofounders are coming to the school. Is there mould in your school? Is mould a normal thing in China? My apartment doesnt have any, so I figured the school is just lying to me.

Thanks.

Re: It is difficult to stay positive.....

Maple Leaf Educational Systems will probably hire you. Here's a link to their website; we need staff at my campus in particular cause a few teachers took issues with the company

I also think a campus in Chongqing needs a principal because he walked out.

Check it out, if you can't find anything else, and need a stepping stone: www.mapleleafeducationalsystems.com

note: I am referring you to a tier three school if you are willing to work and take anything.
