Re: Indonesia - savings potential?

I actually live in Jakarta and can speak from experience. There are at least 10 International Schools, maybe more. The savings potential has been fantastic for me. As for Bali, most teachers who have been here for more than several months don't go to Bali because there are much more interesting places to explore with magnificent beaches. I have several friends here working in different schools and they all save money. There are also International schools in Bali, several in Bandung (nice and cool there) and another in Surabaya..of course the pay varies..Jakarta is not for everyone though.
I work with many teachers with a trailing spouse and children. It is very safe here...many expats and activities ..but unlike other large Asian cities..Jakarta has no subways..so traffic is considered to be the worst in the world..and can drive many insane..including myself. Many of my friends who have worked in other large Asian cities say Jakarta is very different than other more developed cities in all pats of Asia. Jakarta struggles with poor infrastructure and is prone to dreadful flooding frequently during rainy season.
Indonesians are wonderful, generous and kind...but Jakarta is not for everyone

Re: murder threat bully boss

thanks for all the positive support.. I have found a job ..finally in a school with a good reputation. I have learned my lesson...and am leaving in a month for some well needed perspective and rest with my career undamaged. It's a power game some schools play..to manipulate teachers for recommendations. I have 9 glowing recommendations on Search. One bad apple can't kill a career, and sometimes Al Shabab can't either, thankfully.

Re: murder threat bully boss

I know psych guy comments are bogus. The British Embassy told my friend she could be throw in jail for a two week lapse in her Visa and to stay at her own risk. I have lived in Africa for 6 years and have never dealt with this level of corruption. The director is trying to find a way for me to finish my contract on the senior end of the school. Thanks for the support I have received from others on this site. I have found a new job with 9 good references. Bullying a Westgate survivor who was in the Nakumatt hiding for 4 hours and diagnosed with PTSD is just not professional. I'll take my chances for the sake of my health and leave. I don't know why psych guy doesn't banned from this site.

Re: murder threat bully boss

thanks,,still here,,, just resigned Saturday and gave them a months notice...almost out! I should report her to Search, but I don't think they will listen, believe me or do anything about this organization they represent..even though others have complained about missing pay, health care and Visa problems..

murder threat bully boss

Any advice? I was threatened with murder twice by my principal here because I questioned the ethics of the organization I work for. I am also a Westgate survivor who has stayed in Nairobi working with a huge paycut. hid in my classroom when immigration came through ( My Visa was expired) my retirement paper work was lost three times.. and there was a one month lapse in our health care because it expired. The school director is supportive, but not my principal. She told me she would not assist me with with the lost paper work, her boss said yes she would help me..My principal was furious I asked her and more bullying ensued. I resigned. I don't know what else to do. I am resilient, but this is all too much. Am I being a whimp?

Re: Aga Khan in Mombasa, Kenya

My advice working for Aga Khan..it again.. is a super tough job with a low salary. The admin side..which is a larger organization is a mess..if it is is AKDE or AGEN .but day to day life with these kids is amazing..they are so bright and inquisitive..there are no classroom management issues..the Kenyan coast is magnificent..but you know Nairobi and Mombassa have big security issues now..It certainly has been an a rough ride..I love having mostly Kenya co workers..and love this country.. and what I have learned from my Kenyan friends....

Re: Aga Khan in Mombasa, Kenya

I work for Aga Khan in Nairobi. The kids are amazing here, but it is a tough job, most expats don't stay a year..This is my second year..even stayed after surviving being inside the Westgate attack...sometimes hanging by a thread...lack of resources and basic things not functioning..but Kenya is a magnificent country. I don't regret coming here. Kenya and Aga Khan have challenged me like no other place. Psych guy is off base about the proprietary nature of Aga Khan,,It is a difficult organization to understand..when you consider their ethos
