Re: All Alone Out Here?

It is my experience that more and more schools now require you to apply directly via their website. Many schools use Search as an advertising site but expect candidates to follow up through their own application systems (Schrole, etc.). If I were you, I would look at each of your interested schools websites and apply directly through there rather than relying on the Search 'application' system.

Re: Albanian College? Anyone?

New school with a beautiful campus. The director is well known in the IB DP History world. He writes some the IB History textbooks. I am guessing that the school will be growing quickly and seeking IB accreditation at all three levels. Albania is definitely a developing country but Durres is supposed to be more of a resort town. Intriguing new school that I would consider.

Re: ichiros

Will it get yours read over the hundreds or others? Yes.

Are there warning flags that might run through my head? Yes.

My initial impression is that it would seem over the top, unless you are looking for jobs in Design Tech or an Art related subject. Ultimately, it would come down to the information on your resume. If we ended up in an interview, I would definitely ask you more about it to get a better idea of who you are as an individual and teacher.

I think for many administrators I know, this would be too much and put them off. For others, it just might be the innovative and creative type of person/couple that they are looking for. It is those administrators that seem like the best fit for you anyways right?

Risky? Yes, but so is making the decision to teach internationally and go through the rat race of a job fair.

I wish you the best of luck.

Re: Top Schools

Having spent the past 12 years in Central and Eastern Europe, I would consider the International School of Prague as a top tier, 'under the radar' school. I have not taught there but traveled for various events. Staff seems to have taught at all the top schools around the world (and very happy in Prague), a forward thinking school, a beautiful city, cheap living, easy travel, decent to solid pay.

My two cents.

Re: Central and East Europe

As someone who has worked in C. and E. Europe for the better part of 15 years in 3 different schools, I can tell you that many international schools do not require an EU passport. Check out the CEESA schools (Ceesa.org). A couple of top tier schools in that group and all employ teachers from all over the world.
At this point, I wouldn't even consider a move out of this region. Solid pay with the ability to save, travel, and live in a beautiful country.

Re: Bangkok fairs this week…how is it going?

@psyguy

This isn't our first go round but definitely a different feel this year. Many of the schools we interviewed with in November and December this year only did their hiring at fairs 4-5 years ago. We were surprised at the urgency we felt coming from these directors. On the other hand, it made us feel good about ourselves and removed the stress much earlier in the year.
In the future, there is no way we would attend a fair...I would advise the same for any teachers who have been on the circuit for awhile and in good schools. I think they are still necessary for those without the experience at well known schools however.

Re: Bangkok fairs this week…how is it going?

My partner and I were originally planning on attending the Search Bangkok fair. We accepted jobs at a great school in November so headed to Thailand for vacation instead. We had dinner with former colleagues on two different nights and all four of them (one couple and two singles) had multiple job offers from the top schools there. All of these educators are in popular teaching fields. Two of them said that administrators had told them that this was a 'thin' year for highly qualified teachers at the BKK fair.
From my experience this year, many of the 'Tier 1' schools recruiting at BKK were doing Skype interviews and hiring ahead of the fair. I don't think it is too far down the road when these top schools are finishing their recruiting season in Bangkok rather than starting the process there.
