Re: Search Fair for 4 Days?

Oops. I mean that the rules specify that you'd need to be there all day Friday and Saturday, not Saturday and Sunday.

Re: Antwerp

For what it's worth, the Search Associates website says "no" under local opportunities for non-teaching spouses.

Re: Search Fair for 4 Days?

Depending on where you live, you could only take off Friday. At the most, Thursday and Friday. You'll need to be there by early evening on Thursday to register (this year registration closed at 6pm). The fair guidelines state that "if you cannot arrive prior to the end of registration and stay all day on Saturday and Sunday you will not be able to participate in the fair." On Sunday the fair officially ends in the late afternoon (this year it ended at 4pm), but you are really free to leave whenever you want that day as long as you realize that you are cutting off possible interviews.

Accommodations in Cambridge can be quite expensive, especially the fair hotel itself, but you will want to stay in Cambridge versus other parts of Boston to be close to the fair. I'd recommend booking a refundable room early on. There were some very affordable small inns and rooms listed at airBnBs that were within walking distance of the fair this year.

Part time positions

Occasionally, I see vacancies for part time positions. Does anyone know if these positions typically offer overseas hire packages equivalent to a full time position? Obviously the monthly earnings would be significantly lower. More curious about flights and shipping and help with visa, etc. Thanks!

Re: Offer vs. Offer, which would you take?

Considering how a lack of IB experience has limited my options thus far, I would definitely choose to gain it.

Re: Beginning Educator Certificate

How big of a factor is cost? Could you survive for 8 months making $600 dollar payments? Could you survive for 8 months making $300 dollar payments and take out a $2,400 loan? The money you would make and the doors that would open for you with a solid credential would enable you to pay off that loan fairly quickly. Not to mention, you could avoid the hassle of having to return to the US for three years to upgrade your credential. Or, if you do decide to move back to the US, you will have more flexibility as a fully certified teacher in where you choose to look for work. I would take a year of living paycheck to paycheck to have a credential in hand. It would be worth the period of famine to be able to reap the possible feasts to follow.

-school profile: enrollment breakdown, staff breakdown, degrees offered (US IB AP Other)
-salary and benefits: terms of contract, salary range, salary deductions, percentage that one may save, benefits (housing, insurance, transportation, baggage, additional)
-candidate profile: requirements and preferred requirements

following that there is a brief blurb about the school and its mission.

Re: quick question--time is of the essence!

Agreed. I'm over-complicating an obvious situation. That said, do I mention that I applied before and was overlooked for the not quite suitable position? Or just treat it as a brand new approach?

quick question--time is of the essence!

If I already applied to a school for a position that wasn't actually the best fit, but now want to apply to the position that is the precise fit, how do I address that in my cover letter? Do I write a completely new cover letter even though the content will be mostly the same? Do I write an identical cover letter with slight differences and risk seeming generic? Please help, this is my dream job!!!!! I can't believe it's suddenly available and want to act fast!

Re: Staying Certified abroad?

A decent school will offer Pro-D. However, the answer to your second question will vary depending on the state in which you were licensed. I would check with the State Board of Ed.

feeling like giving up

Is it too soon to feel like giving up on finding a job completely?

I have a theory that PsyGuy and ThamesPirate are the same person.
