I envy those in pastoral care who get to work from home - that's the life and it's completely doable if not preferable to the way it once was. I pity those who work in pastoral care in person right now. Too close for comfort for my taste.

China is the most racist country on earth at present all while lecturing European and North American countries to hug a Chinese to prove they aren't racist against Chinese. Spare me! I would also warn anyone teaching in China to get out ASAP. In particular, Hong Kong is done. So sad. Hundreds of thousands Western-oriented residents of Hong Kong are looking to get out any way they can. The international schools there are finished faster than even those on mainland China. Get out fast.

It's pretty obvious at this point that China is over in the short term. Sorry money hungry pigs who invested way too much there. Sadly, it's spreading within Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Iran too. Likely to become endemic like dengue but obviously this is much worse. Hopefully it will stop there, but likely coming to a market or street or apartment block near you very soon. I was clearly responding to the original poster who described scenarios in which the applicant jumped through many hoops already before the school's recruiters decide to go silent. That is the very definition of rude on the part of the school and if you can't call that bastardly behavior, something is clearly very wrong with you.

It's one thing to never respond to thousands of random applicants, but it's not an applicants fault when schools/recruiters are not capable of doing their job correctly and either they interview too many applicants or take too many applicants too deep into the process. That's a sign of incompetent leadership. When on top of that the recruiters can't even have the decency to say thank you to those they strung along, the recruiters are in my "good riddance to bad rubbish" category.

I actually love it when this happens because it puts the spotlight on what bastards the people running the school really are and demonstrates how lucky I am to have dodged the bullet of being offered a job (that I may have been foolish enough to accept) to work with them. This happens all the time and is illustrative of the dreck that have sadly ascended to high positions, not just in international schools, but also in many "respectable" organizations both domestically and internationally. Consider yourself blessed; you have someone looking out for you in high places!
