Re: What happens if...

Good question. My IS has a world-wide plan so I hope it covers me world-wide. Your current plan may cover you. You would take a leave of absence or medical leave. In the case of a long-term illness though--idk. probably depends a lot on your state. My home state is pretty liberal and has socialized medical care.

Re: Looking at schools through the eyes of a parent

I don't think I would mention that your kids will not attend the school your husband is applying to in a cover letter. Maybe in an interview, but even then--not sure if it is appropriate.

I do understand your concern. We have a 7th grader who will be at the school we were hired to work. We are going to just see what happens. We can supplement anything that seems lacking in the school. Are main concern is him having friends and feeling happy and safe.

Re: International Schools Paying $100,000+

If you want to stay at an IS, stay at an IS school. Why would you consider leaving IT for money?

I am taking a HUGE pay cut next year at an IS, but my overhead will be covered and I'll have what I need.

Where do you want to live? What are your financial goals?

Re: Expanding Your Horizons

I think schools that are "off the radar" may want to look through Search/ISS and recruit attractive teachers directly.

It is Tunisia.

MissMe, you can email me your questions. I don't see anything on the member side. Click on my name. My address is under "interests"

Shipping or Shopping allowance?

My new school is offering a choice of taking a shopping allowance or a shipping allowance. I'm having a hard time getting quotes/determining how much stuff I can ship for the amount offered. I want to do the most efficient and economical option. If I take the shopping allowance I will be responsible for shipping anything at the end of the contract. If I take the shipping allowance, school will provide shipping at the end of contract. Is there a site that will do an easy estimate?

Most of my stuff will be stored at my home base so I really won't need to take much--yet this is my first IS job so am interested in what the veterans have to say. Thanks!

Re: Paris

The salary for ISP isn't listed on ISS. ASP is the only Paris IS that has salary information.

Re: Paris

ISS has the salary range for ASP at $55,000-$115,000. Not sure how accurate that is though.

Re: I got a job!

Good advice. In addition to reading news reports, we spoke to teachers/parents and even met a few students as part of our research. The risks were evaluated and decision made. Will continue to monitor the situation--but for now we are learning French and Arabic :)

I got a job!

SO excited and wanted to share. It is in a N. African country that starts with a T. Not much info about the country here but the school has good reviews on the paid site.

Has anyone lived in North Africa?

Language Programs

Has anyone used Speed Learning Languages? It was rated #1 but I can't tell who sponsored the review. Rosetta Stone was # 5. Please share your experience. I want to learn French.
