Re: Busan Foreign School

Hi Nomad,

Thanks for the reply, although grim news, I know that's the reality in SK. I will keep my options open and see what happens.

Cheers

Busan Foreign School

Hello Forum,

How is it in South Korea? savings potential/cost of living/what is a reasonable salary for this area where I could still save an average amount of capital? (non-teaching spouse and one young child) What is a typical salary/package offer from schools in this area? Any other info, other than review type info, you can add would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Re: Open Spanish Positions

Hey PsyGuy,

Thanks for the information, I just signed up with TIE, very reasonable for what you get ($39). I was unaware about TES and COIS, which I am going to do now. You guys are all helpful with great contributions to the forum.

Re: Open Spanish Positions

Thank you marieh, I was not too familiar with TIE, but yes, 31 positions. For some odd reason, I thought TIE was free got all excited. I did find a promo code, I think I 'll just see what happens, they don't seem as expensive as the others. Best of luck with your search.

Re: Open Spanish Positions

Hey, thank you for the response, I 'll look into that one. I was trying avoid the fee, but if I have to, I guess it is the way to go from what I have read. Good luck with your search!

Open Spanish Positions

Hello Fellow contributors,

I am looking for some help or advice. I am a Spanish teacher from the states w/10+yrs. experience, some in IB/MYP (fluent in English and Spanish) I have a B.S in k-12 Spanish & a M.S in Educ. Leadership. I have been reading through the paid reviews, and somewhat going by some of the more serious/non-bias posts, should I just apply directly to the school? or join ISS/SA?
Lastly, does anyone know of any Spanish teacher openings? I have looked everywhere.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Recruitment Agencies

Sitka and PsyGuy,

Thanks a lot for the helpful answers, that was great. I am going to send some CVs first to schools, some schools seem like they will only consider you if you applying through a member of one of these agencies.

Re: Spanish and French Foreign Language Instruction

Thank you AnneBar & Peregrination for those honest and helpful responses. I am new to this forum and wanted to get an idea, if any at all of the possibilities for my subject of instruction. I am a native Spanish speaker, I worked as a court interpreter in CA for several years. In my opinion, there is much more to teaching a foreign language than being a native or non-native speaker. I have met and know some non-native Spanish teachers that can teach more effectively than some native speakers.

I will use those websites you mentioned, thanks guys.

Spanish and French Foreign Language Instruction

I was wondering if anyone can provide some useful info to the following questions. I am a male (married/one child) foreign language teacher (Spanish/French) with 11 years experience and hold a teaching certificate in Maryland & Delaware. I have two years IB/MYP stateside teaching experience and one year teaching ESL experience in KSA. Four year military AF term (was not sure if that mattered) I have a BS in mid. level educ. (7-12) and an MA in Curr./Inst. w/a focus in Leadership.

My wife holds an EU (German) passport, my questions are: Do foreign Spanish/French teachers hold a chance of gaining a teaching post in an IS because of the small teacher turnaround?

If so, is there a specific or general area that I should apply that my increase my chances of getting hired? My least preferred area is Asia.

I am pretty sure this has been asked just could not find it, when is the best time to submit an application? and if the IS offers a position, how long does one usually have to get to the teaching location?

I currently teach (under contract) is it really wise/worth it to break contract?

Gracias/Merci in advance for anyone who takes the time to reply.
