She has been there since August and she quit last week so not a full year.

So I was talking to a friend today who had to resign from a school recently, taught high school and had one extremely difficult class who got very personal with their rudeness, (dumping food on her computer, hiding her recharger, writing silly comments on the bathroom wall) she finally had enough and resigned as administration was not helpful with the class, she was looking advice as to how to explain this to her next interviewer? Any thoughts? my advice was to admit the truth without blaming anyone and say you learned from it.

Hey everyone so I just arrived last week for the induction period of my new job in Pereira, Colombia, first time in this country and really don't know anyone that well, my Spanish is in need of lots work. So far I have been impressed from what I have heard from the school after a nightmare of a year teaching in Bahrain. I have met some of the new teachers all in all a good experience, my question is to the international teaching vets how do you develop a social circle and break out of your shyness to get out? I have a great living apartment which I am living alone in, I have been invited to a dinner with one of the administrators family last weekend and the school director has been so gracious in showing me around town a couple of days. The rest of the staff will be coming in next week, perhaps my social circle will expand there, any advice?

I was hired for next year by a school in Colombia with Canadian teaching qualifications, so yes there are schools that do not require US certification.

They referred to it as American core curriculum.

Greetings all I have signed on to a school for the upcoming academic year in a part of the world I have never been to, Colombia, after speaking with an American teacher there who said she loved the school but the first couple of months were very tough for her because the school lacks resources.

I wanted to ask the seasoned international teaching professionals how do you handle this one? I taught for years in Canada at a good public school and one year in a Middle Eastern school where in both places this was not an issue. I will be teaching grades 11 and 12 English and just looking for some insight. I know the internet is a vast one, where you can find worksheets and activities, anyone have specific favourite sites? or any other avenues? thanks.

Well I got the news yesterday and didnt get the job, I am disappointed definitely but look at it as a learning experience, still going to apply to other postings and hoping to get something for next September. As for the late timing, well I have been working in the Middle East since last August and I have learned that in some parts of the world things are done at a much slower pace. Back to applying and hoping.

I'm still waiting for an answer from the school, I contacted them a little over 10 days ago and was told they're still interviewing for that week. Although it would be awesome to get a position there, I'm very much certain that I didn't get it due to the length of time that has passed.

So the interview took place this morning, very early in my part of the world around 5 am, the lesson I dont think went well, I was given a 10 minute time limit and I am very sure it didnt get there. It was very awkward doing a demo lesson in front of one person on Skype, I really hope this didnt torpedo my chances at this school as I was comfortable answering the other questions, I was told I would be informed of their decision by the end of the week, now the wait is the hardest part.

So two differing opinions both making excellent points, I thought about and asked if it was possible to set up a cam in my current real classroom to film a real lesson and was told that would be fine. But I see a few problems with that, there are constant interruptions by admin, hall monitors, other teachers etc during the day, also I am currently very unhappy where I am teaching now and basically looking for another school to join next August, my contract ends and I dont want admin finding out about this as they will be very unhappy I am sure.

Greetings all, new member here and really glad to have found this informative site. I have a question in regards to an interview I have coming up in a couple of days, the interview will be via Skype and I have done that in the past no problem, but the head of HR at the school has asked for what he termed "mock teaching. I have the options for either during the interview or record a video of myself and upload it to Youtube? I have 7 years of teaching experience in 2 different countries and have never had this type of request. Any insight, advice or suggestions that anyone can give here? The job is for a lower secondary level English position.
