Hello,
So my wife and I have both taught in International Schools and I met her when she was a local hire. We are now back in the US itching to go back overseas. She has a US teaching license and a Masters' degree, currently working in a US school. She has her green card and permanent resident. My question is: Does anyone know if she could teach abroad and keep her permanenent residency in the US? I know the International Schools would hire her, I'm just worried about if this would affect her residency and her path to citizenship. Or is this a question for an immigration lawer?

Masters/Questions
Hello,
I have 6 years teaching experience with 3 abroad. I'm back in the States now at a very good High School but am itching to go back overseas with my wife who is also a teacher. I have some questions:
1. I want to start my Masters program and should have my MA in two years. Typically, how much more money will I earn? Do you think schools prefer teacher with Masters degrees or shy away because of pay?
2. My wife is not a US citizen but has a US teaching license (Colorado) and a Master's degree from a US University. She has a green card. Will schools hire her as a foreign-hire?
Thanks.

Hiring as a Married Couple
Hello everyone,
Both my wife and I have taught in international schools before but when we were single. We are now married with a baby on the way. Would you say it is difficult to find a school who would hire a married couple with a baby? I teach secondary and she teaches elementary. We are both highly qualified but have never looked for jobs as a pair. Open to locations.
Thanks!

@overseaslife
I currently live in Venezuela, I was just wondering if it was actually possible to save more money than here.

Re: Sao Paulo
São Paulo is an amazing city. If you are teaching at one of the International Schools, I'm sure you will be living in one of the nicer neighborhoods like Alphaville. When I was living in Brazil, the exchange rate was 2:1 USD and it is now 3:1. Just keep that in mind if you are making Reais or Dollars. You can find some of the best food in the world in São Paulo. There is a very high Japanese population which results in a beautiful blend of cuisines. As with any major city, use common sense to protect yourself against petty crime.
Pros:
Food
Nightlife
Women
Futbol (VAI CORINTHIANS!!!!)
Music
Art
Cons:
Traffic
Pollution
Crime

Syria
Note: I might being entering uncharted waters of ignorance with this post.
Are there any international schools open in Syria? If not, how long ago did they close?

Re: Please share your positive experiences
The students, campus, budget, freedom of curriculum, administration, money, weather, beaches, relationships, people, etc.
I have nothing but greatexperiences. Please understand that many people who frequent this website are here to complain and are likely unhappy people who will never be satisfied. I live in a very dangerous country with a plummeting economy but I am far more happy here than teaching in the States. I've learned that there are more or less three types of people who get into international teaching:
1. Adventurous people looking for a new experience and enjoy the excitement.
2. People looking to make and save more money.
3. People who think they are running away from their problems. Have no sense of reality and expect to find the conveniences of home.
Many are a mixture of these three.
Have a positive attitude and just go for it!

I am also in Venezuela at a different school. The person who just answered your post hit the nail on the head. Especially the fact that you will be able to save more money in Venezuela if you are paid in dollars than any other country in Latin America. Proceed.

Re: Wanna teach but not die! Seriously...
@whynot
Your credibility is nonexistent considering you've never been there. It troubles me to think of how many close-minded people we have teaching in this world. Take a look at yourself before bashing things you have never experienced. Do you understand how large the United States are? Do you really think the crime is rampant everywhere? As for corrupt politics, you could throw a dart at a map and I'd bet on you'd land on a country with corrupt politics.
I am from Detroit, a dangerous city and currently live in Venezuela. Thank god I don't live in fear or my life would be miserable. Luckily, there are great people everywhere in the world and I understand what being a friend is.

I work at a school in Valencia. Do you speak Spanish? It's hard for me to say about living with a child, I am a single adult male with no children.
