Hi Everyone,
I'm thrilled to have just accepted a job offer in Portugal. Although I've always wanted to work in Western Europe, the fact that I don't have an EU passport always seemed to rule me out from interviews.
However, the more I read into the process of obtaining a work permit in the EU for a NON-EU Citizen, the more I begin to worry. Do any North American teachers have experience in obtaining a work permit for a job offer in Portugal (or the EU in general)? How was your experience? Any advice?
My only concern is that if I'm denied a work permit I'll be left without a job in September.
Thanks!

Re: Singapore Pay
Thanks so much for your insight.
I am single, no dependents. I think from what I've heard from others and you I won't be accepting the position. Although Singapore looks like an amazing opportunity and I wouldn't mind living in a small flat, I will not be happy if I need to watch every penny I spend. The cost of living in Singapore seems to high.

Singapore Pay
Is it possible to live comfortably on this salary and be able to save?
3,800 Singapore Dollars a month - living expenses
3,400 Singapore Dollars a month - salary
No annual flights given (just the initial flight over to Singapore and a return ticket after completing a 2 year contract). Medical coverage provided.
It seems that Singapore is quite expensive to live in and while it seems that the salary is good, I am scared in actuality a lot of it will go to rent, bills and high living costs.
Thanks!

Leaving the PYP
Hi Everyone,
My current teaching contract is up for renewal and I am unsure what to do. This school has been my first experience teaching the PYP. I really enjoyed the experience of working with this curriculum's framework, however I am ready for a change in location.
Because so many international schools are adopting the PYP, I would ideally like to continue working in IB-PYP schools. However, an opportunity has arose in a very desirable area of the world at a reputable school. Would it be wise to accept this position and risk having a difficult time being hired at another IB School in the future? I do realize it is quite difficult to get positions in IB schools without IB experience and I'm worried about being "out of the circle" for too long.
Thanks!

Breaking into South America (Brazil)
I am looking for advice on how to "break" into international teaching in South America, specifically Brazil. Currently I am in Eastern Europe teaching at an International School that follows the IB's Primary Years Programme. I have applied directly to countless schools with no luck. I am now debating about staying at my current school for one more academic year or accepting a job offer in Southeast Asia for 2 years at another PYP school - however, this would further delay my plans to move to South America.
How have you managed to get into Brazilian schools? Skype? Search Associates? Association of American Schools in South America (AASSA)?
Is it very competitive to get an international teaching job in Brazil? What are they looking for in a teacher?
I am also open to living in Argentina, but I understand that it's quite difficult to transfer money out of the country due to current laws. Chile also appeals to me.
Thank you!

Re: Sao Paulo life and schools
I'd love to get the same information from you. I'm seriously looking into Brazil as my next teaching destination.
