Re: Stuttgart with a Family?

I know this is an old post but I want to give my input. My wife and I have been hired at the school and I can say that the salary of the school is very competitive and that even on one salary, we would have had no problem living there. The housing does seem to be expensive but the salary from just me would have easily covered expenses. From my perspective, the salaries listed in the previous posts are way lower than the salary scale we were given. Just my two cents! Hope it helps.

Re: Finding work in April

Well, I had my Skype interview today. All went well and it was actually pretty fun. They also checked my references right away so I assume that means they are serious and that I at least have a good chance at the job.

Anyway, don't give up hope!!!!

No, she just has a green card. Do you think this might make a difference?

Re: Foreign Hire and Tuition

I understand that the tuition is taxable and that is not a problem. Here is what the details from the website says: "Foreign hire faculty children, for whom no other employer has primary financial responsibilities, are educated without charge by the school." Since my wife would be hired from the USA but is a German national, would she still be considered "foreign hire"?

Not a problem if no one knows. We will definitely ask the school about it if my wife is lucky enough to be hired. Thanks for the responses thus far.

Foreign Hire and Tuition

Hello All. Just a quick question. My wife might have an interview with a great school in Germany. She is a German citizen but we teach in the United States. If she were to be hired, would she still be considered a "foreign hire" since she would be hired from a foreign country but was nevertheless a citizen of Germany?

The school states that foreign hire faculty children would have a tuition waiver. Not to clear about what that means. We only have one child but it would be a really big downer if our child could not attend the school where she would be teaching because of tuition fees. Maybe someone out there can clear this up for me.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Re: Finding work in April

My wife just received an email from a great school in Europe asking whether or not she was still interested in the position to which she had applied months before. We replied that "yes" we were still very interested. A reply was sent back that they were putting together a short list for the position and that they would get back to us. Hopefully it all works out but I am a realist. This would be our dream school!

But the main point is that there is still hope even though it is almost May. Whether my wife gets the job or not is another story.

Re: Swiss International School in Regensburg, Germany

Thanks wrldtrvlr! My wife and I both have interviews soon and we would both be foreign hires so I hope they assist with relocation costs. Glad to hear the head is enthusiastic. The pay would not be too much of an issue as we would hopefully both be working but I have a sense it would not be as much as BIS or other well established schools.

Again, thanks for your help.

Re: Swiss International School in Regensburg, Germany

Yeah, sorry to mention it before but I have checked out all of their websites both for Germany and Switzerland. I just wanted to get outside impressions and opinions. Thank you so much for the last post. Any other general impressions? The reviews of two schools in Switzerland were very poor but I don't know if I should begin to judge the Regensburg campus (even though it is run by the same company) from these posts.

Again, thank you for any advice or information.

Swiss International School in Regensburg, Germany

Hello,

It has been very hard to find information about the Swiss International Schools in Germany. Does anyone have any information about the school in general and possibly specifically about the school in Regensburg?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Re: Expert Needed in Cover Letter and Resume Formatting

Thank you very much for the response. I signed up with JoyJobs two weeks ago but still have to go through the entire process. I will definitely have everything ready for the next hiring season.

Anyone else out there who has the time to look at our documents and earn some cash?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Expert Needed in Cover Letter and Resume Formatting

Hello! My wife and I have applied to several positions this year. We have lots of IB experience and great references. However, we have had absolutely no luck at all this year. My question is this: Are there resources out there i.e. people to whom I could send all of my documents and pay to have this expert in IS reformat, reword, rework... all of my stuff. In my eyes, all of our stuff looks professional but I believe this is where our problem lies- our presentation. In other words, I would like to know if any of you know of credible people with lots of IS hiring experience who can take care of our documents (comment, give advice, and make changes on Cover Letter as well as Resume') for a fee. Maybe some of you on this forum possibly.

Now, I know your questions: Have you searched the web for advice? Have you shown your HR person your document?...... All yes to these questions. I want an expert who can take care of this for me, maybe ask a few questions, and then pretty much give me the finished product. I am just sick of guessing as to how these schools are viewing our documents.

Thanks for all your help!

Thank you for the advice Nomads. I had thought about doing that but did not want to come off as pushy. One last question: Do you have any input on how I should frame the email message? I am very nervous about seeming too pushy. I have read "The Art of Emailing Directors" but most of it doesn't really pertain to me writing the building principal.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for both of your replies! We have already sent off all of our documents and are just waiting to hear back from the schools. I tend to think of myself as a realist and since we haven't been contacted about an interview yet, I assume they are waiting to look at other candidates or wait for more applications. In other words, they didn't look at our applications and snap us up before other schools got to us.

By the way Nomads, what did you mean by aggressive in applying? Should I contact the schools?

Thanks again!

Do my wife and I have any chance?

My wife and I are applying to schools in Germany. She has taught IBPYP for seven years at a German Immersion School (and she is German) and I have taught IBMYP and IBDP for the last 10 years (German, History, TOK, and DP Coordinator). We both have held leadership positions in our schools.

We have applied together as a couple but we are not attending any conferences. Do we have any chance at all of obtaining positions w/o going to the conferences? Most schools give priority to those who attend so our chances must be reduced. Right?

Please give me some advice or information!!!
