Re: Saudi Arabia and China benefits comparison

There are several schools in China posting higher savings potential than schools in Saudi Arabia (including Saudi Aramco) on the Search Associates website.

Saudi Arabia and China benefits comparison

Savings potential at schools in China seem to beat those in Saudi Arabia. This seems to be the case even for Saudi Aramco schools. Have things changed so much over the years? Any comments?

Re: Passport Requests and Serious Teachers

For sure you have to be careful about identity theft. I hate when hotels want to photocopy my passport. If some school wants your passport and driver's license up front that is scary. If they have two pieces of ID from you there are lots of things they can do with that.

Thanks. That's good info. Kind of what I expected. I'll check out those schools you mention.

Re: Western International School of Shanghai

The package looks good except for moving allowance, settling in allowance, PD and maybe the number of teaching days is high. I would love to hear from some people presently or recently having worked there.

Re: Partying??? Beware of this scam...

I think this guy is talking about a different scam. The girls are already there in the bar and always there. They sit down at your table and order either glasses or cheap champagne or even beer. The bill arrives and it's $50 a beer or glass of whatever, and $60 for a bowl of peanuts. Sometimes even they bring the menu showing those prices. The bill arrives with 6 burly waiters. The whole bar is in on it including the guy who brought you there off the street. I've heard of people getting stung for $3000 or more. Actually this was an episode of Scam City. This happens all over the Middle East and Asia.

Re: Partying??? Beware of this scam...

That is a scam that happens all over the world. Sometimes it's someone who approaches you in the street and asks if you want to go for a beer. In you go and sit down and beautiful women sit beside and order overpriced drinks. I've heard of this happening everywhere.

Re: Is it just me .......

The problem is really the English speaking countries: USA, UK, Canada, Australia, where teachers are not valued and all the benefits are being cut, workload going up, yada yada. With all the teachers leaving the USA they'll be hiring ex-cons to teach. If the world doesn't smarten up they'll be sorry for what the next few batch of kids will be like when they graduate: illiterate, can't add more than total of their fingers and toes, Facebook and GTA addicts.

Re: Is it just me .......

I'm having problems too and I have over 10 years teaching abroad, Masters degree, lots of IB experience. I too think it's the competition, especially from American teachers as education is crumbling and imploding there.

Schools in Iraq?

Can anyone name any good international or private schools in Iraq? I am hoping to find a school with good savings potential to pay off student loans. If you have taught there or have any information I would love to hear about your experiences and recommendations.

In general do PYP Coordinators receive a higher benefit package than teaching staff? Is it comparable to principals?

Re: The International Teaching Life-style and Finding a Mate

I actually did set up a dating site for international school teachers 1.5 years ago. But shelved it after a month as I was too busy and it took a month to just get set up, choose a name and I never even got to the stage of getting it online. And it was costing me $200 US a month for the hosting and tech support. But I haven't given up on that idea.

Calipro - Why Colombia or Brazil? Lots of expats there?
