Thanks for the info, Tamagawa looks pretty good.
I'm not just looking at bi-lingual schools - In fact they need to be good if I'd go as looks a bit poor on the CV.
A lot of the lower tier IS in Tokyo seem to pay around 350,000. Seems a little on the low side to me!

JP School info request
Hi guys,
I asked this about a year ago but wanting to know of a few schools in Japan - Tier 3 or Tier 2 schools, could offer bi-lingual courses. I'm a Primary teacher without NQT but 2 years post-exp abroad, thus not looking for a elite schools. I know of the schools in the reviews section. Out of interest, what would KIST offer for salary (they seem to advertise at around 380,00 - Seems a little low)? Anyone got info on this school? Might be good to get IB exp.
Psyguy gave me a list of some interesting schools awhile back, but since then they've cancelled private messaging. Must have got heated!
Cheers

Fees on cancellation of contracts
Bonjour mons amis!
I wondered if you knew something about this:
My current school has changed contracts for new starts or re-signs.
It states that even with handing in a 3 month notice period,
the teacher must pay back quite a few fees.
Some of these are visa costs and medicals (I've seen this before).
However, one of the fees is for around 800gbp to advertise for a new teacher.
The other fee which struck me was around 400gbp for cost of initial hotel on arrival.
My thoughts are that if I had to hand my notice in for whatever reason (although it's a great school),
I could be dumped on from a cliff.
Has anyone seen fees like this before?
Airplane and visa type things I understand.
Anyway,
Hope you're well.

Re: Prospects in JP
Haha Psyguy, haven't been on here for awhile and good to see you're still on it!
Yeah an NQT back home. I definitely don't wanna work at top tier international school, or basically under any management that aren't fairly relaxed. Not up for it. Make of that what you will!
I wouldn't take an ESL academy type position.
I guess the PNET program in HK may change my mind though.
If a school doesn't accept my teaching experience from my current workplace, I wouldn't want to work there I guess.
Thanks for the tips though!
My membership ran out some time ago, but I know of a few bi-lingual schools that look good.
If anyone knows any good places lemme know!

Prospects in JP
Hi!
Seeking advice from the wealth of knowledge on here.
Here's me...
PGCE Primary with QTS
CELTA
Exp
2 years ESL (pre qualification)
2 years post exp Year 6 teacher (British curriculum bilingual school in Asia)
Obviously no home/NQT exp
What are my best bets for jobs in Japan?
Doesn't have to really be in Tokyo, either.
Are there well paid bilingual schools available?
It seems there are some options.
Ideally I'd like to stay in a mixed split curriculum environment.

Thanks for detailed reply teacherguy, good to hear what other people have done. I'm doing a PGCE at the minute in Primary education, am CELTA qualified (a little something to add to the CV) and have two years ESL exp. I'm under no false illusions that I'm well qualified compared to most teachers in the IS game, thus looking for tier 3 schools or thereabouts.
When did you teach in Cairo? I know there are lots of jobs I could take out in the ME, but I won't consider these jobs as I'm looking at SE Asia. I've already started emailed out to schools from this forum and jobs I've found on Tie/teachergig/contacts I know/elsewhere. I think it's a start! It would be great to know of a few schools out in Asia that would be fit an NQT such as myself

Where are you doing your cert, Marieh? Thanks for the encouragement overhere. I will, and have been contacting more prestigious international schools, although am really only in contact with 2 who may request an interview before Christmas. This is certainly no guarantee of a job. I agree with inman above in his definition of tier 3. I'm being realistic in considering seeking these schools out. I am also CELTA qualified (with ESL exp) which I got mainly for the reason you suggested inman.
I would also be very interested to hear from teachers who didn't complete there NQT year/Had no home country experience post cert before heading off. What was your experience of this?
I'll quote the person above "if you currently work in a top tier school and have worked your way up the international circuit, what school did you start at?"
Thanks for the input people

Tier 3s in Asia
Hello again, good people of ISR!
Quick summary: I'm doing a PGCE in Primary right now, have ESL exp, CELTA cert, no post cert exp, young, not a reputable school's dream.
Well my last post didn't get me very far, but the advice was good and wise enough (stay for NQT year - Which I'm not going to do).
I wondered if anyone knew of any tier 3 schools anywhere in Asia that would be worth emailing a very nicely worded email to?
Even international kindergartens with some accreditation or PYP/British based curriculum.
If so, it would be great if you could PM me some details.
Thanks again
