Waiting to hear back but you have an offer

Hi everyone!

How do you handle when you have interviewed for two positions, one of which has given you an offer and would like you to respond in three day. The other (top choice) said they will let you know by the end of the week.

I want to hear what my top choice school is going to say but also do not want to shoot myself in the foot by declining the other one. Would you just ask for an extension (is that reasonable)?

Re: Student Loan Payments

Hey there are a lot of us first geners out here!

LOL Jayhawk! Well I guess the fact that I was raised on eating rice as a staple part of my diet and could not live without it (lol) will work in my favour.

Thank you again everyone. Previous to posting this I was convinced I would be paying off this high cost education for the rest of my natural life. But as you all said, with good planning I can really knock a lot of it out.

Re: Student Loan Payments

Thank you everyone for your responses. I am definitely going to pay it back. It's good to see the different approaches. I will do as many of you said, really focus on paying it off with extra money I make.

Thank you Micky and optimistia for sharing your experience. That is really encouraging!

Re: Student Loan Payments

Thank you for the advice. I am the first in my family to go to college so this is brand new to me and most of the people in my networks (who are also first geners).

I am glad I asked.

Student Loan Payments

I am new to the International Teaching circuit and in my 20s with over 40K in student loan debt. I wanted advice if it is worth trying to pay off my student loans with the excess money from an international teaching career or if I should just continue to pay the minimum until . . .

Rejection and Job Fair

If you receive a rejection letter for an application you submitted at a school, should you just bypass their table at the Fair? Or should you still visit?

That is actually one of the schools I bookmarked! Great, I was just concerned with some of the reputability.

In your experience, do International Schools ever help fund teachers to get additional certification or degrees? Or do teachers have to privately fund it themselves?

Reading Specialist is additional study worth it?

Hello all,

I am a licensed primary educator from the States. I am contemplating pursuing a reading specialist certification or degree to complement my teaching certification.

I wanted to know, if anyone had 1) thoughts about the worth of this additional study (it is very costly), and 2) any recommendation for programmes at a distance.

In the same vein, are there PD opportunities that exist where you can apply and obtain such training and endorsement/certification?

Wow! Thanks for the replies, well I am def new. I applying to my first IS positions now. I am certified from the US in primary education and have 2 years teaching experience in the US. Looking to land an ECE position.

What would you consider qualities of a poorly intentioned low quality school?

When Do Schools . . .

. . . become more active in recruitment. Is it After the SA fair in January? Is it right before? In March?

I have seen lots of job postings on SA but it seems like schools are not responding from what I read on the threads.

Protocol for Application Follow Up

Hello All,

After you submit your application directly to a school what is the standard protocol? Do you usually wait until the school contacts you and how long do you wait until you assume you did not gain the position?

Do you follow up with the school to get the status of the application? If so, how long after you submit your application?
