ISS vs Search
I am sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything about it. We are trying to figure out which agency we should sign up with to try to find a job for the 19/20 school year. In the US, my husband is certified to teach Special Ed and I am certified to teach Foundational and Advanced Math as well as Elementary Education. My husband has six years teaching Sped at various grades, but prefers secondary. He will have two years as a Sped Facilitator. He has a Masters and some EdD coursework all in Sped. I am fairly new at teaching. I finished my first year teaching special ed (even though that's not my training) and will teach middle school math this year. We have three dependents. So I know we won't be be highly competitive, but I'm hopeful we'll find something. We are not too picky about location. Saving would be nice, but we are more interested in travel opportunities. We prefer larger cities, but can be flexible as long as we can travel. Based on these factors, which agency would you recommend to us? Would it be appropriate to sign up with both agencies? TIA

Re: Timing of DODEA postings
Is there a deadline or due date when EAS applications need to be finalized to be considered for the next school year?

I use Portland State University. It's just what I know about, but they publish a catalog of online PD.

Expat parents, please chime in...
I am accepting my first teaching job and will be moving to Europe this month. But my 8 year old is very upset about moving. I know as her parent I need to make hard decisions about what's best for our family, and I think this adventure will be so great for her. But I would love to hear other parent's experiences about taking their child overseas, especially if the child did not want to move. How did they transition, how long did it take to fit in with peers and make friends, did they learn to love their new home or were they depressed and homesick? I have searched the blogs, but would appreciate your experiences. Thanks!

Vietnam salary and taxes
Are salaries usually quoted pre or post tax for Vietnam? And what taxes would I need to pay on a Vietnamese salary? (Specifically for withholdings/taxes for Vietnam, not for the US)

Re: Just Testing the Waters
Oops. It's an MA, not MS. It's what I will pursue this summer after I'm certified. Here's the link.

Re: Just Testing the Waters
I just replied, but it looks like it didn't get posted. Basically, check out the M.S. in Mathematics education from WGU.edu. It's online, competency based, cheap, starts monthly. If you are very competent already or even just need a refresher, by next Thanksgiving you could already have your masters and a math degree for under $6,000.

Thank you Taylor. In your eyes, what is concerning about being in Indonesia.

Jakarta with young drpendents?
We are a teaching couple and have been considering Jakarta International School. But, we have three young dependents who will be 3, 6 and 8 next school year. After all the crazy child abuse cases coming from JIS and Indonesia, I have reservations. My kids would be in the elementary school, I in the Middle school and husband in the high school, so we wouldn't be in the same schools as my kids in order to have a closer watch on them. Do you think my concerns are valid or should we approach it thinking because of their history the school may be more vigilant?

Re: EdD via distance learning
My husband is getting his EdD online at Nova Southeastern University. The only onsite portion is 4 days in Florida during your first July of the program. They offer several concentrations which is nice, but the cost is $1,000 a credit. Ouch.

SEN Specialist, Coordinator, Teacher
I'm trying to determine how these positions equate to US positions and which positions oversee the others. I don't quite understand the difference between a teacher and a specialist, or a specialist and a coordinator. Which position would be equivalent to a Special Education Director?
