Re: My post is gone?

Thanks for the replies!

Yes, it was annoying that someone hijacked it to talk about agreeing to go on several contracts - definitely not me!

I checked my email and there was a message from admins saying it had been taken down because of a troll, shame as there were some good replies.

Thanks

My post is gone?

Strange, I posted a while back asking about how the Pandemic had made people feeling regarding being overseas and maybe making people think about putting on hold international teaching to go back home for a while......and there were quite a few replies but all of a sudden, the post has been deleted or simply disappeared?!

Any ideas??

I changed my password just in case but wondering what could have happened?

Re: Singapore Int'l School BKK

Any specific information about this school? Past teachers? Teachers who are currently teaching there? Anyone know the package, conditions, etc?

Thanks.

true....never count on a sure thing! Thought of a question regarding this topic.....How long would you wait to hear back....after waiting for a proposal....and writing asking about timeline etc....how long would you wait before moving on?

Re: Worth signing up to Search or too late?

Quick question.....Do all search associates ask that you modify CV's to fit a certain standard? and write Bio according to their advice?

Just curious!

Thanks

Re: Worth signing up to Search or too late?

Thanks for all your replies......To be honest its all a bit of a hassle. There are so many routes to go down....I wouldn't mind having a presence on all these different platforms, but you can't really ask your references to complete letters for Search...teachershorizon....schrole and then any CV's you send directly to schools.

I might try search this time around and leave schrole for next time......but how do people decide where to have a profile? Or do you do sign up to different ones and just get your references to write up letters to all of them?.....I just don't want to be a pain!

Thanks

Worth signing up to Search or too late?

Ive been sending application letters and cv's to possible vacancies and have had some success but Im still thinking about signing up with search associates. My application is half way done but I stopped over xmas and didn't complete.

Is it worth finishing it off or is it too late in the game, with fairs and so on already going on? I won't be attending fairs, just to be on their database and find schools through their db.

By the way...how does one go about finding the "best" associate?

Thanks.

From UK National Curriculum to IB?

Ive just started my International teaching career and Im loving it. Im teaching at an International school that follows the UK national Curriculum from primary all the way through to secondary. So Im thinking when I leave here and try and move on, I know a lot of International Schools offer the IB (PYP, MYP and IB DP).

So my question is how is that transition, from teaching the UK NC to teaching the IB? Is there anything I can do now to increase my chances of interviews, jobs offers etc in the future?

If anyone can share some advice etc that would be great!!

I have also had a look online for resources of MYP Units etc but cant seem to find anything. Any further info would be great!

Future

Hi,

Looking for some advice. Im currently working internationally. This is my first post overseas, I have 2 years experience back home and I am currently in my first year of a two year contract. Its still early days but I am already thinking of what to do when my contract ends as I would like to move on.

Im going to get married in the summer and was wondering what the best approach would be when looking for my next post. My future wife speaks good English but its not her mother tongue. She has a degree and a teaching qualification from her country of origin (Europe). She has QTS certification from the UK. Problem is she has limited teaching experience.

What would the best approach be when applying for positions? Ideally we would like to try and get her a job at a school as well, even if its only as a TA....

If anyone has any advice, comments, etc we would greatly appreciate any input.

Thank you.

Thanks for the info everyone!
@PsyGuy thanks, useful info! Do you have any information on Vietnam? Saigon? Life, expenses and what a suitable salary would be? in order to survive over there without too much hardship¿?

thanks, my plan is to continue to apply to any vacancies that I think I may be suitable for and see if any last minute jobs appear and I get lucky! if not, Ill try and find something locally and maybe I can get some more experience for next year.

thanks to everyone!

Thanks for the replies. I have heard that some schools don't accept the PGCEi, but I know a LOT of people who have the PGCEi and work at very good schools internationally.

I chose this option because going back to the UK was not an option for me.

My teaching practice has been in KS3 (MYP) ICT and DT. I am looking for either a position as an ICT specialist or an upper primary teacher (year 4, 5, 6)

Ive never lived in the UK as Ive always lived overseas, was only there for University so going back to the UK is not an option....Will keep on sending cvs and see if I have any luck.

I dont have any preferences on location or school....just want to get experience as its what Im lacking and therefore cant seem to get a job :(

Thanks for the comments.

No luck so far, any advice?

Hi everyone.

Well here goes, hopefully someone can give me some advice. Im going to finish my PGCEi in May and have been applying for jobs since january. I havent had any success so far, some interviews and even gotten to final stages of interview....but not been successful.

I think my main problem is lack of experience in actual classroom teaching. I have always private tutored and have experience with primary and secondary students. Im doing the International PGCE as I am not based in the UK and as part of the course Ive done my Teaching practice (observations, mentor, teaching file, etc) at an international school. I also have an IT related degree from the UK and can speak 2 languages fluently.

The problem is that I am aware that chances of landing a job now are quite low, seeing as its already nearly march and I really dont know what to do. Should I keep looking and sending cv or forget about it for this year?

My guess is that my lack of experience is bad compared to other candidates....but if no one employs me then Ill never have experience!

Feeling a bit down as I love teaching, the PGCE course and my teaching practice have been great and at the moment not too sure on what to do. I dont have any preferences and have sent cv to many different countries and schools, but no luck...

If anyone has any advice Id appreaciate it!

thanks.
