Got my invitation last week - they are apparently a little behind with the work load.

I checked my file with COIS and it says 'accepted' - whatever that means. I am working now and have all my references in - have always had good references but have had some problems where I am now so I'm beginning to wonder how the latest reference turned out.

I'll call them tomorrow to find out what's going on - it seems that they would tell me if I had been rejected for some reason.

Thanks for the input - will keep you posted.

I had to reregister since I already had a file with them and had since moved to another school. I got an email confirmation that my file had been updated (I'm assuming with the latest letter of recommendation) and that I would receive an invitation with the next automated batch of invitations that went out.

Emailed them a couple of days ago and have not gotten a response yet.

I know they moved so they have been a little slow on a couple of things in the last few weeks - I'm just wondering about this one.

COIS London Fair Invitations

Hello all!

I'm registered with COIS to go to the London fair in January. Still have not received an invitation to the fair - has anyone else gotten one? They are not responding to my emails either.

Thanks for any input.

These people have not responded to one of my emails in the last few years even though I had my membership renewed. And they have my cv posted on their websıte in spite of my numerous requests to remove it. The cv is now over ten years old.

I have no idea why they have refused to help me with this as they were very helpful ten years ago. So in this regard I cannot recommend them.

My warning sign has been the line 'and really, no matter what anyone says, our kids are great.'

Too much emphasis on this line has ALWAYS meant major behavioural problems. And there was of course very little one could do about it except grin and bear it until the contract was finished.

Thanks very much for the info - I agree that it can't hurt so I've decided to go ahead with the training.

AP teacher training

Is it an advantage in the international school world to have AP training on one's resume? Or is it really just IB training and experience that matters? Just wondering.

Then I think we might know each other - also there in 1974, but left in 1976 when Elnusa Nusantara from Petromina started to bail on the employees. Was in Ms. Rach's sixth grade class and don't remember seventh grade too much. Lived in Cilandak, too. I distinctly remember running like blazes from the neighbourhood water buffalo.

Small world - PM me if you'd like.

Have decided to go to the UNI fair - there was a new posting for a position today, so I should at least give it a whirl. They do seem to be much more 'human' than Search - don't know about ISS.

Thanks for the info and reply. Will keep you posted.

Hi JIS,

You know I went to JIS as a kid when it was known as Joint Embassy School - I loved it there!

It seems that the UNI fair is a much more pleasant experience than others - I've been to Search and AASSA and they were okay but nothing to jump up and down about.

I've contacted UNI to see if they can tell me if there are any further positions opened right before the fair. I've already bought my ticket, so I might just go and mingle anyway.

I'm now trying to get last minute registration for the COIS/ISS fair. Do you know anything about that one?

Thanks!

To go or not to go

. . . that is the question!

The positions opened at the UNI fair that I would qualify for have dwindled to three. It looks really good on the website, but when you check on the school websites, most of the positions have already been filled - it seems the schools don't always update the openings on the recruiting websites.

So I'm wondering if it's even worth going now. Any insights?

These are hilarious! It is indeed a good thing to look at the humorous side of this process!

I think the strangest yet was when the head of school entered the 'interview area' of the hotel suite just after getting off of the toilette - the smell was rather 'potent' (I'm being tactful). In addition he was hungover (apparent from his breath drifting across the interview table), so although I took the job (it was thankfully his last year at that particular school), I barely made it through the fumes of the first encounter.

I have emailed JoyJobs several times and never gotten a response. They do have a lot of centralised information, but good luck at any correspondence with them.
