Dear ASF Community: I am writing to all of you today to announce the departure of Dr. Darío Cortés as President and Executive Director at the end of this academic year. Dr. Cortés has decided, for personal and professional reasons, that he will be leaving ASF at the end of the school year in June 2008. During the coming months, Dr. Cortés will be making preparations for the next phase of his professional life. In light of this, Paul Williams, Associate Executive Director of Academic Affairs, will assume the role of Interim Executive Director, effective immediately. During this time, Dr. Cortés and Mr. Williams will be working closely together with the ASF administration and the Board of Trustees to ensure a smooth, seamless transition. Paul Williams has been a valuable member of the ASF community for twenty-two years and has worked tirelessly for the School and its success. He has held various positions at the School, including teacher, Department Head, Curriculum Coordinator, Director of Personnel, Head of Upper School, and his current position as Executive Associate Director for Academic Affairs. His academic and professional experience both in Mexico and abroad, as well as his dedication to ASF makes him an ideal candidate to lead the School during this period. The Board of Trustees will embark upon a search process in the next few weeks and will send more details out to the community as they become available. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Cortés for his work at ASF during the past two years. We all appreciate his many contributions to our School. Dr. Cortés oversaw an update to a Strategic Plan, as well as the School's Master Building Plan. He has been instrumental in the planning and execution of the new Upper School building project; working with the design team and the Buildings and Grounds committee to ensure a 21st century learning center for our students. His commitment to cutting-edge technology has brought various improvements to ASF, namely Blackbaud and Blackboard, which ASF has pioneered in Latin America. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the faculty, staff, students, parents and alumni of The American School Foundation, I would like to wish Dr. Cortés great success in his future endeavors and extend our thanks for his work during his tenure at our School. Sincerely, Violet Perez, Chairman, Board of Trustees |
