| Comments: New International School of Thailand is one of the better schools I've worked in. The students were delightful and there seemed to be a lot of support from parents. There was considerable transparency in many of the school's policies and procedures, and decisions that affected the entire staff (ie. medical/benefits and salary packages) were negotiated with teacher input. The hiring of new admin was also open to teacher input. Read more about New International School of Thailand - Bangkok, Thailand in International Schools Review.

I worked at NIST for 3 and half years and was very happy there. The school is strong academically (an IB World School. The community is fairly close knit and supportive. The kids come from a wide variety of backgrounds (mostly wealthy)and it is in fact a fairly stable base of students unlike a couple of the other more prominent schools in Thailand. The length of stay for most students averages about 4+ years rather than the usual 2 or so years. There have been some sweeping changes in the past 2 years at NIST making the working environment a little stressful but things are now settling down.
Living in Bangkok has its challenges but the staff are generally very friendly and supportive of each other. There are a core group of long stayers who are happy to befriend newcomers and an active Social Club who organize events for both families and for couples/singles without children. The Head, Simon Leslie, is new to the school and his personal style is suitable after all the unrest of the past couple of years. The Board had been heavily involved in management decisions prior to his appointment which meant that a few undesirable changes occurred but this should settle down now that Simon is in place.
The strength of the school lies in the strong academic leadership of the Elementary and Secondary Schools. In particular Adrian Watts, Secondary Head is a strong and visionary leader. Paul Hamlyn, the Elementary Head, is a less strong leader but is well supported by his team, especially his Deputy, the irreplaceable Doud Edwards. There is plenty of professional development offered at the school, particularly in the Secondary School and most teachers utilize their dedicated professional development fund well. The staff are very cosmopolitan which lends a nice flavor to the school. Contractually, the school are usually very good...giving all that is promised in the package. A strong Staff Representative Council protect the rights of the staff and annually campaign for a competitive package. All in
all a good place to work and live!
