Comments: There
are some students at Ibn
Khuldoon National School that
are wonderful. However, I found that there was a lack of care
for academics here on the
whole. When a large portion of the students will never have to
have a job interview or find work in the traditional sense, academics
simply don't rank as a high priority, and it sometimes shows
in the attitudes of the students.
Don't
get me wrong, I took some wonderful individual experiences
away from this in my interactions
with the students at Ibn
Khuldoon National School,
but the environment was not very academically charged....
One
thing that troubled me about Ibn
Khuldoon National School was
that I was teaching stories and material that pledged equality
and fair treatment
for all, but the school outright participated in the low-wage
to near slave labor trade that exists in the country. The Indian,
Pakistani, and Bangladeshi laborers that maintained the school
were treated poorly and housed in....
