issues aside, Country
Day School Guanacaste was
not the place to be to make or save any money. Costa Rica may
be a developing country in
Central America, and its salaries reflect that, but it very much
has the cost of living of a developed country. It is expensive
to live there and your wages at
Country Day School do
not take you very far. Salaries are also locally taxed. When
I was there, teachers were given
a housing allowance, but Country
Day School Guanacaste has
recently moved to providing furnished housing for faculty.
The
students, bless them, seem to have a disturbing sense of entitlement
and empowerment--part of being among the Costa Rican
upper class and part of the lack of accountability and the sense
that they and/or their parents of Country
Day School could
drive a teacher or administrator out if they wanted to (from Guanacaste).
At the same time, kids are kids and they will ultimately....
